Gator Culture is a result of a collaboration from a 2026 Oregon Country Fair folk (Anonymous Commission) and myself to create an interactive element at OCF that is focused on drawing attention to and engaging in conversation of Gator or powered vehicle usage at the fair.
My take on it is that there really aren’t rules, just participants, and while there is concern about people being injured by these vehicles the people who should be most concerned are the drivers and riders. My feeling is that the last thing we need is policing of speeds on the grounds, but the first thing we need is people not wanting to injure other parties.
The drawings I’ve created are really based on myself, at a younger stage in my life, as a ruffian with a “devil may care” attitude. I side with the Gators. I think they’re cool, and living life to the fullest. By including the bystanders in the works it is designed not to make a value judgement, but simply increase the scope of awareness, and encourage some empathy and some perspective that only comes with time and exposure.
Drive safe, have fun. Go Gators.
