Yes, another whale. I love it. I’ve done a few versions of this whale because I find the story so powerful. My takeaway from Herman Melville’s Moby Dick is an incredible glimpse into a now almost non-existent world. It also is a Kafka-esque or Camuian tale of a slow and knowing decent into madness, and the living sadness experienced by Ahab, as well as Pippin (returned from the dead a changed person destined to die again).
The drawn Whale in this version is an attempt to capture the indifferent joy the creature feels as it lives its life being pursued by doomed men. It is heavy subjectmatter, but that doesn’t mean we can have fun.
